Microneedling Q & A

What is microneedling?
Microneedling involves a small handheld device that gently presses ultra-thin needles into your face and neck. During a microneedling session, Dr. Ressler’s aestheticians control the amount and depth of the punctures, which triggers your skin to repair itself.

What are the benefits of microneedling?
Your skin senses the needle punctures as damage and shifts abruptly into repair mode. As it tries to correct the damage, your body amps up elastin and collagen production, which are two of skin’s best assets. Collagen and elastin work together as key components of the many benefits of microneedling, which include:

  • Reduces scars, wrinkles, and fine lines
  • Smooths out skin texture
  • Rejuvenates skin
  • Helps skin stretch and resume its shape
  • Strengthens skin
  • Lightens hyperpigmentation
  • Reduces pore size
  • Stimulates tissue regeneration
  • Reduces the crepey appearance of aging skin

How is microneedling performed?
When you arrive for your microneedling treatment, a member of Dr. Ressler’s caring, attentive team cleans and prepares your skin for the procedure. You’ll recline in a relaxing position while an aesthetician applies a topical anesthetic cream to numb your face and neck. As the device vibrates gently over your skin, you’ll feel tiny pricks and pressure, but the discomfort is only temporary.

You may be red and have areas of swelling for a few hours or up to a day or two after your session, but it’s mild and resolves on its own.

How many microneedling sessions are needed?
In general, most people need between three to six sessions to achieve optimal results. To give your time to heal and boost collagen and elastin production, each treatment is spaced about a month apart. If you have age spots, acne pocks, pits, or deep wrinkles, your aesthetician may recommend up to 10 treatments to restore your skin’s vibrancy.

It features a sealed treatment tip that enables an aesthetician to control the depth of the needle piercing with exacting precision. Attached are my daughter’s photos from many years apart. She has always been self-conscious of her chicken pox scars on her face. She had Chicken Pox before they came out with the vaccine. So here are her before (7/14/09) and close up of the “bad ” acne scar (same date) and her face now (3/12/21) after about 15 Micro-needling procedures in the past year and a half. Let me know if you are able to use these.
